Cosmetic LED Teeth Whitening

IS TEETH WHITENING SAFE?

Yes. Thousands of clinical studies have concluded that whitening your teeth with bleaching material (carbamide/hydrogen peroxide) under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?

The most common side effect of whitening is tooth sensitivity. Your North Vancouver dentist is your best resource to ensure that you are a good candidate for whitening and that you are using the right concentration of whitening formula. The great thing about bleaching is that you are in control, you can bleach for as long and as often as you like. If your teeth get sensitive, stop, the sensitivity will go away. Furthermore we pre-treat all our patients with desensitizing agents such as potassium nitrate and amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) to reduce or eliminate tooth sensitivity.

HOW LONG WILL MY WHITENING RESULTS LAST?

Whitening treatments help to reduce existing stains, but through the consumption of coffee, pigmented foods, smoking or just through natural aging, your teeth may eventually become discolored again. We typically see teeth staying lighter for 8-24 months. If you avoid food and drinks that stain your teeth and follow proper dental maintenance you can expect your teeth to stay lighter for an even longer period of time.

How white can I go?

Teeth Whitening Results are subjective and vary from person to person.  While teeth whitening can occasionally lighten your tooth shade by 9+ shades, most clients who whiten their teeth for the first time are likely to see a 2-6 shade change in their first session!

What Causes staining in the teeth?

Age:

Over the years, teeth tend to darken as a result of wear and tear and stain accumulation.  Teenagers will likely experience immediate, dramatic results from whitening.  When a person is in their 20's their teeth start to show a yellow cast, which means teeth whitening may require a bit of effort.  Someone in their 40's the yellow in their teeth starts to convert to brown and will need more maintenance.  By someone's  50's a person's teeth have absorbed stubborn and difficult (but not impossible to remove stains)

Grinding of the teeth:

Teeth grinding is common with people who suffer through a lot of stress or anxiety.  Teeth grinding or gnashing of the teeth causes micro-cracking in the teeth and can cause the biting edges to darken.  Trauma such as falls and other injuries to the teeth can cause sizable cracks in teeth, causing staining, collection of debris, and sensitivity to them.

Starting color of teeth:

We are all born with teeth color that ranges from yellow-brownish to greenish-grey, and intensifies over time.  Teeth that are yellow-brown is generally more responsive to whitening than green-grey teeth.

Translucency and thinness:

These are also genetic traits that become more pronounced with age.  while all teeth show some translucency, those that are opaque and thick have an advantage
